How counts are calculated
Words are sequences of characters separated by whitespace. Sentences are split on terminal punctuation (. ! ?), so abbreviations may slightly inflate the count. Paragraphs are blocks separated by blank lines. Reading time assumes 200 words per minute, the common average for adult silent reading.
Common length targets
Tweet/X post: 280 characters. Meta description: ~155 characters. LinkedIn post sweet spot: 150–300 words. Blog post for SEO: typically 800+ words. University essay paragraph: 100–200 words.
